In the Red Corner or green if you prefer, we have the juggernaut of software giants, Microsoft and its Xbox one. This unit has transformed itself 3 times and basically is not recognizable to its launched concept. The Xbox one is loosing the fight and has lost the fight even before the first punch was thrown. Microsoft failure started at the reveal. Most people don’t remember or know this but the Xbox one event was one of the most watched event in history of streaming. Only the presidential debate ranked higher. This proved that the fan base was there. Most had already considered the Xbox one for the choice long before the ever opened their mouth about DRM. But due to that and their higher price the Xbox one lost the loyal fans they had to Sony. Yes they changed their approach but not before the mindshare migrated to Sony’s ps4. In a effort to regain their fans Phil Spencer took over with one objective in mind, games.
More importantly his goal was creating a world that playing games and gamers were the most important thing to the Xbox division. They aggressively bought exclusives and developered exclusives. They pushed deals after deals, created hardware and modified it’s UI, they cut prices, and give away more than any other console has done in history. They furthered things buy placing the gamer in charge of updates and modifications advice for the consoles and delivered on that. Then, in one of the most shocking moves in gaming, they accomplished what no other console was able to do effectively. They master backward compatibility. In doing so they have began to unify all things windows and gave a vision of the first unified platform for consoles and pc.
To this day through all the months of coming in second place and being down over 10 million worldwide, they still remain The Very Best platform for THE Top games made for this New Generation. They also remain the Very Best for multi-player network for dependability. Most importantly, although loosing against Sony in the worldwide sells, still has.. to this date, sold more consoles than they did with the 360 at this same point during its free run without any competition during its first year. Which means they are successful despite being the second best selling console.
However, after all this the painful but true fact still remains. Microsoft will loose against Sony in worldwide sales figures for this generation. There is NOTHING Microsoft can give, buy , or sell on the Xbox one that will ever make them number in worldwide sales. There is also nothing Microsoft can do to fix their deficiencies in resolution and sometimes frame rates in their third party titles so Sony will always have the best looking third party games as a whole. Because of this we may see more companies not try any longer to equal the platforms in regards to third party performance. If this happens more and more difference will be seen as the generation moves forward and those changes will result in more graphic fidelity for ps4 over the Xbox one. This is the chance you take if you stand by Microsoft and Xbox one. Yes, you will be taken care of by them. You will receive more top game exclusives with them over any other and this will be backed by a great president and the money resources needed to buy a way out of no way in most cases. At the end of the day Microsoft wants you and they will give you the world but they will not ever win the console generation in terms of install base. If you can live with this then xbox one is the choice for you.
